Success starts in your own mind

Updated: Apr 4

Understand that frequency precedes form, when it comes to success. The frequency is state of being, that comes from the mind.

#1 The premise

Success is not just the result of our actions; it starts in our minds and the way we think. This is particularly true in sports, where our mindset plays a huge role in how we perform and how successful we are. In fact, many athletes and coaches believe that success in sports all success starts in the mind. Our thoughts and beliefs can have a huge impact on our actions and our outcomes, and this is particularly true in sports. Athletes who have a useful and confident mindset are more likely to perform well, while those who have a negative and doubtful mindset may struggle to achieve their goals.

#2 Useful Belief over positive thinking

Positive thinking is an over used term & does not work. A more effective way of navigating that is replacing positive thinking with useful belief i.e. a mindset that focuses on what might be useful to me "now", rather than dwelling on the worse case future scenarios.

In sports, it means focusing on the things you can do well, rather than worrying about the things you can't do. It means approaching each game, match, or practice with a hopeful and optimistic mindset, believing that you can succeed and achieve your goals. Positive thinking just anchors itself on feeling good, but does not work when the athlete does not believe it. Replacing it has been proven to have a real impact on performance. Studies have shown that athletes who have a useful belief are more likely to perform well, and experience less anxiety and stress.

Another reason is that, it can help athletes to stay focused and motivated. When you believe that you can succeed, you are more likely to put in the effort and stay committed to your goals. You are less likely to give up when faced with obstacles or setbacks, because you believe that you can overcome them. Sports can be an emotional rollercoaster, with highs and lows, triumphs and defeats. A useful belief driven mindset can help athletes to stay calm and centered, even in challenging situations. This can lead to better decision-making, better performance under pressure, and greater resilience in the face of adversity.

#3 Self Belief is the key

Self-belief is another key mindset that can make a huge difference in sports performance. Self-belief means having confidence in your own abilities and believing that you can achieve your goals. It means trusting yourself to make the right decisions on the field or court and believing that you have what it takes to succeed. Self-belief is crucial in sports because it helps athletes to perform at their best, when it matters the most. Useful belief helps put the performance in perspective, whilst self-belief is the anchor needed to perform in the first place.

When you believe in yourself, you are more likely to take risks, make bold moves, and push yourself achieve what you really want to. You are less likely to hold back out of fear or uncertainty, because you have confidence in your abilities. Self-belief can also help athletes to stay motivated and committed to their goals. When you believe that you can achieve something, you are more likely to work hard and stay focused on your goals. Even when the going gets tough, self-belief can help you to stay on track and be fully committed to the process.

#4 Visualization only works when the above two are true

Visualization is another powerful mental tool that can help athletes to achieve their goals, only in the presence of self belief & knowing things happen "for you" not "to you". Visualization involves creating a mental image of what you want to achieve and imagining yourself succeeding in a particular situation. It can be helpful for athletes because it can help to build confidence, reduce anxiety, and improve performance.

When an athlete visualizes success, they are creating a mental blueprint of what they want to achieve. This can help to build confidence by showing the athlete that they have the skills and abilities to succeed. It can also help to reduce anxiety by creating a sense of familiarity with the situation. When an athlete is familiar with a particular situation, they are less likely to feel nervous or stressed.

Visualization can also help to improve performance by training the mind to focus on the right things. When an athlete visualizes doing something well, they are training their mind to focus on the details that will lead to success. This can help to improve technique, build muscle memory, and increase confidence.

#5 In conclusion: Success in starts in the mind

The way we think about ourselves, our abilities, and our goals can have a huge impact on our performance and our outcomes. Athletes who have useful beliefs, trust in the process and show up with pure self-belief are more likely to perform well, while those who doubt themselves are more likely to struggle. These are all powerful that can help athletes to achieve their goals. By focusing on these, athletes can build confidence, reduce anxiety, and improve their performance. Whether you're a beginner or an elite athlete, adopting this can make a huge difference in your sports performance - it always starts in the mind.
